Spider-Man: Far From Home post-credits scenes explained: How many after credits scenes are there in Spider-man?

When Talos calls Fury, he says "Hope your mission is going well," implying that Fury left for a distinct purpose and not entirely because he wanted some kind of space vacation. So now we know that Skrulls are back on Earth more than 20 years after the events of Captain Marvel, and they're here in a capacity that allows them to impersonate some of the most important people in the world. Jonah Jameson and the Daily Bugle into Peter Parker's New York city, and the introduction of the Bugle as an outlet specifically geared toward exposing Spider-Man for who he is from the start, is a bold move forward for this little corner of the MCU. Jonah Jameson, it’s impossible not to talk about the late Stan Lee. In 2010, Stan Lee told NPR that he wrote Jameson as a dark reflection of himself.

It calls into question every aspect of his life, from his membership in the Avengers to his remaining years in high school to his future. He's going to have to find a way around this, and perhaps more than any other teaser in the film's credits, this condition carries the most weight moving forward. That means members of the Mysterio gang are still out there, still operating in some capacity, and still out to get Spider-Man. We don't know how much we'll see of them in future films at this point, if at all, but the mid-credits sequence makes it quite clear that this isn't over. Now that Far From Home has at least uttered the word “multiverse” in the MCU, it opens up a blurry realm of possibilities.

How Will Far From Home's Mid-Credits Scene Affect Phase 4?

Now, the Daily Bugle seems to have gone digital, but it still has J Jonah Jameson at the helm. And in one of the biggest surprises of the entire movie, the man playing Jonah is once again JK Simmons, the Oscar-winning actor who portrayed the character in the original Sam Raimi-directed Spider-Man trilogy. As Spider-Man he also clashed with the paper’s editor and publisher J Jonah Jameson, a hard-smoking newsman with an irrational hatred of Spider-Man who ran a campaign of disinformation and downright scaremongering against the webslinger. For his part, Spider-Man frequently found himself forced to save Jameson’s life from various supervillains (including a few, like the Scorpion and the Spider-Slayers, that Jameson hired himself) though usually took the chance to play a prank or two on his old foe. Ever since the 1960s comics Peter Parker has worked as a photographer for the Bugle, often selling them photos of his own exploits as Spider-Man (despite the paper’s extremely negative slant on his heroism) and using assignments as cover for his missions. If you thought the first post-credit scene was a gag-worthy moment...

The identity reveal is also a slight nod to the post-credits scene of Homecoming, in which we meet Mac “Scorpion” Gargan, who asks his fellow prisoner Adrian “Vulture” Toomes if he knows who’s behind the Spider-Man mask. Vulture lies and says he doesn’t, but who knows how his mind has changed since the Blip. In the comics and Marvel’s PS4 game, Jameson has ties to Scorpion, so it feels all but certain both players will appear in Spider-Man 3 to make Peter Parker’s life a little less bearable. Whether Scorpion or Vulture or even Doc Octopus will return to join the long-discussed Sinister Six, a group that historically includes Mysterio, is less known. Then, Jameson gets the honor of dropping an even bigger bombshell, as a further video clip shows Mysterio revealing Spider-Man's secret identity, and a photo of Peter Parker, to the world.

What does it mean for Phase 4?

As the shot pulls away from Fury it is revealed that Fury is on a space station with other Skrulls. Fury then calls out to everyone within earshot…Are you ready? Far From Home marks the MCU debut of the fictional news organization, which up until this point has never been mentioned on-screen .

If Simmons can play Jameson in both the old Sony Spider-Man movies from the early aughts and the current Sony-Disney collaboration, is Marvel Studios implying that the elder superhero movies are actually just alternate universes within the MCU? Firstly, Robert Downey Jr. and Samuel L. Jackson in a single frame? One of the greatest post-credit scenes of the MCU has to be in Iron Man when Tony Stark meets Nick Fury for the first time and tells him he's “not the only superhero in the world”. He tells him about the "Avenger Initiative," and thus starts a whole new franchise.

Second post-credits scene: Nick Fury is a Skrull?

Jameson has aged accordingly since the last time we've seen him on screen; however, his appearance leaves a big question up in the air. Is this the same version of Jameson who we saw in the Tobey Maguire era of "Spider-Man" movies? Peter's about to head off when a breaking news report comes on a screen on the side of Madison Square Garden. The newsman says he has "disturbing revelations" about last week's attack in London. Last we saw Talos and the Skrulls, Captain Marvel was headed into space to find them a new home away from persecution in the 1990s.

This bold move is retconned in a later comic book that involves Peter and MJ striking a deal with Mephisto, the Lord of Hell, to undo a number of past events, including restoring Peter’s secret identity. It’s unlikely that Mephisto will show up in the MCU films, so Peter’s public identity is probably permanent. Marvel fans pretty much know what to expect from these movies at this point. There is one scene that takes places after the “splashy” credits sequence at the end of the film, and then another one if you wait all the way through the black scrolling credits. Post-credits scenes range from hugely important to goofy (Captain America’s PSAs).

He drops MJ off, she says she never wants to do "that" again (aka, flying around New York City clinging onto Spider-Man for dear life) and she turns to leave. He then hops up onto a lamp post where he sees a huge billboard flash with some breaking news. For anyone who can remember back to March, approximately 800 years ago in 2019 time, the scene offers some comfort after Captain Marvel. At the end of that film, Talos and his people zipped off into space to find refuge on a new planet.

That casting decision alone would have made this post-credits scene one for the ages – but what comes next is even worse, with Jameson playing a clip where Mysterio reveals exactly who Spider-Man really is, blaring “Peter Parker! The scene then cuts to Nick Fury sitting on a beautiful beach with his phone in hand hanging up on Talos. Fury then gets up and starts to walk away from the beach—which then begins to dissolve similarly to Mysterio’s illusions dissolving earlier in the film.

It seems that since then Fury has aligned with the Skrulls for some greater purpose, perhaps in response to Thanos’ intergalactic attack. Presumably Talos has been impersonating Nick Fury just during the events of this film and not before — though we can’t be certain. We then see Nick Fury taking the call on what looks to be a beach. But Fury is not on a well-deserved vacation — he’s just relaxing in a simulator on a massive space station. Whatever Fury is planning for the next phase of the Avengers, it will take place in space.

What we do know, though, is that we shouldn't expect to say goodbye to Nick Fury anytime soon. When Talos calls Fury from Earth to tell him about everything that happened with Spider-Man and Mysterio, he reports that he and Soren gave Peter the glasses like they were asked, and then things started to get out of hand. So, as far as we know, Fury and Hill have been absent for the duration of the film, and Talos and Soren were the ones who were taken in by Mysterio's schemes.

Spider-Man: Far From Home: How Many After-Credits Scenes & Ending Explained

He recorded the footage of his confrontation with Peter and edited it to make Peter look like the mastermind behind the attack who murdered Beck in cold blood. And then, just to really nail that coffin lid shut, he revealed Peter's secret identity and sent the whole package to the Daily Bugle for broadcast. There are two must-watch end-credits scenes that will have fans talking long after the movie is over.

In the extra scenes, Spider-Man and MJ are shown finishing up their webslinging through the city. Spider-Man drops off MJ, but before he fully breaks away a news bulletin catches the attention of everyone. The second post-credits scene features Maria Hill and Nick Fury as they leave the scene of Mysterio's major disaster--or, well, sort of at least. It turns out that the Maria and Fury we've been with for this movie aren't actually Maria and Fury at all--they're Skrulls . We have no idea just yet exactly what the Skrulls are doing back on Earth, but if Fury's reference to the Kree is correct, their old enemies are also hanging around our neck of the cosmic woods.

As for Marvel itself, Kevin Feige and Co. will share details about the future of the MCU after the Far From Home premiere. By that time, we’ll have an even better idea of what to expect from the next phase, at least judging by some of these Far From Home reactions. Given that the film plays around with the idea that Peter's Spider-Man will become Tony Stark's successor, the huge plot twist is a dark play on the end of Iron Man, when Tony revealed his superhero identity to the world. Of course, this one wasn't done voluntarily but it certainly sets up a lot of potential avenues for the next Spider-Man film to explore. The scene cuts straight back into Spider-Man and MJ on their “date”.
